CRITICAL THINKING

Every ALPHA session provides multiple opportunities for students to use and develop critical thinking skills. Mind benders, forensic investigations, creative problem solving, and problem based learning units are just a few of the strategies employed.

PROJECTS

STEM EDUCATION

Pleasant Grove is excited to offer STEM education through the use of LEGO ROBOTICS this school year. Students will begin with the Lego WEDO platform and move on to use the NXT software necessary for building and programing autonomous robots.

LITERARY DAY

Reading high quality literature provides opportunities for enriching vocabulary, cultural awareness, and deepens comprehension and critical analysis skills. The books selected for Literary Day push students to read at higher lexile levels and provide rich connections to classroom content in social studies and science.

MOCK TRIAL

Each year fourth and fifth graders have the opportunity to participate in a MOCK Trial competition. Students write their own opening and closing statements, develop a case and line of questioning, and learn about the logistics of our legal system.

ART & DESIGN

Understanding the elements and principles of art and design sets each student up with the building blocks of appreciation and a deeper understanding of the role design and aesthetics play in our everyday lives.

TALENT

Matching up students with opportunities to discover and develop individual talents is a critical role of the ALPHA program at Pleasant Grove. Each student will be offered the opportunity to grow in unique ways.
